The Center brings together MIT faculty and research staff from diverse specialties to collaborate on interdisciplinary materials problems. Center research involves over 150 faculty, research staff, visiting scientists, and graduate and undergraduate students.

MPC researchers cover the full range of advanced materials, processes, and technologies, including:

  • electronic materials
  • batteries & fuel cells
  • polymers
  • advanced ceramics
  • materials joining
  • composites of all types
  • photonics
  • electrochemical processing
  • traditional metallurgy
  • environmental degradation
  • materials modeling- many scale
  • materials systems analysis
  • nanostructured materials
  • magnetic materials and processes
  • biomaterials
  • materials economics

The Materials at MIT Research Digest is compiled yearly by the Materials Processing Center and the Center for Materials Science and Engineering. Data from it is used for Dept. of Materials Science and Engineering incoming graduate students and the Industrial Liason Program's Knowledgebase (available to MIT staff and to ILP member companies).
